Our volunteer members are required to work 3 or 4 mandatory 12-hour shifts per month. This shift based response allows anyone from the surrounding travel area to be an active member. Each applicant must pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT), Background Check, and Interview. Decatur Fire Department takes applications year-round for volunteer membership. At this time, the call volume impact is so high that we are not processing volunteer members not certified to the required state certification levels. Persons wishing to become volunteer members must be:
- Certified as a Basic Structural Firefighter with the Texas Commission Fire Protection (TCFP) and/or
- Certified as a Firefighter 2 through the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshal's Association of Texas (SFFMA) and/or
- Certified, minimally, as an Emergency Care Attendant with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS)
Qualifying candidates should download and complete the application below. Applications should be turned in, along with proof of certification(s) to Decatur Fire Administration or emailed to Training, Decatur Fire Department.
We look forward to visiting with you about your future in the fire service!
